What is cold pressing?
Cold pressing is a process used during juicing. Cold pressing aka slow pressing, aka “masticating” (we love to use that word) is a process that separates the fiber from the cells of the produce, which hold all of the nutrients and live enzymes, without adding any heat - - hence the “cold press.”
We cold press our juices to ensure you get the full micro-nutrient benefits that organic fruits and vegetables have to offer. Virtually all of the juice you buy at the grocery store has been high pressure pasteurized (HPP), a process that dramatically reduces the healthful benefits of its ingredients. By avoiding heat during our extraction process, we maintain extremely low levels of oxidation, resulting in juices that are fresh, nutrient dense, rich in color, and full of flavor. We also press our juices in small batches to be enjoyed within 3 to 5 days of press for optimal nutritional benefit and maximum flavor.
Don’t I get the same health benefits from eating raw fruits and vegetables?
Eating raw fruits and vegetables daily is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. And it is almost impossible to eat enough kale salad to get all of the nutrients you need! Think of juicing as an express delivery of super food fuel and micro-nutrients. Each bottle of our 16oz juices has approximately 5lbs of produce! Much easier than all that shopping, washing, and chopping. Just imagine the wonderful things you can do with all that extra time.
I eat organic, shop local, and exercise regularly. Why do I need to cleanse?
You may be checking off all the right things when it comes to self care, but your multitasking, moving at the speed of light lifestyle may still be depleting you. When your body is using all its energy to just maintain your pace, it can't do the job of detoxifying itself. A juice cleanse helps your body detox so those systems can come back online and work like they should.
Will I lose weight on a cleanse?
You will most likely feel less bloated on your cleanse and may also lose some weight. However, our cleanses are not designed as weight loss programs. During and after your cleanse, we encourage you to focus more on how your body feels when you are able to detox and re-balance. Beauty truly is an inside job, and there’s nothing better than seeing your inner glow begin to show on the outside!
How many days should I cleanse?
We have designed our cleanses to last from 1 to 5 days. If you are a new to cleansing, you might want to experiment with a few days at first to see how your body feels. However, our cleansers always tell us that they begin to feel significantly more energy and clarity of mind on Day 3.
How do I prepare for my cleanse?
Beyond making room in your fridge for all those gorgeous bottles of juice, a healthy pre-cleanse diet includes organic fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and high quality plant-centric foods, along with five to eight glasses of water a day. You'll respond best to your cleanse when you avoid heavy, stimulating, altering or difficult to digest foods for two or three days beforehand.
As much as possible, try to eliminate:
- Soy products
- White sugar and sweets
- Processed foods, including salty snacks
- Fried Foods
- White flour and gluten containing grains
- Red meat and processed meats
Is it better to cleanse in the spring or summer?
Choosing when to cleanse is entirely up to you. We encourage you to cleanse whenever you feel the need to detox, reset and re-balance. In the winter, cold weather can cause acidity to build up in the blood and in a variety of tissues, causing aches and pains and reduced immunity. In this case, a multi-day juice cleanse can help bring your pH back into balance. We also use spices and superfoods in our juices during the colder months to heat up and energize the body as well as to strengthen your immune system so you can fight off those pesky seasonal bugs.
I'm used to a paleo diet. How am I going to get through a 3 or 5 day juice cleanse without protein?
On a cleanse, your body absorbs the vitamins, minerals, and phyto-nutrients in the fresh raw juice at an accelerated rate as juice requiring little to no energy to digest. When you don’t have to expend extra energy digesting protein, fiber, and fat, your body actually detoxes faster and more efficiently. We have wide range of juice formulas that have a balance of both greens, root vegetables and greens and fruit, which are appropriate for even those with severe hypoglycemia or diabetes. Before you start your be sure to contact us to discuss any specific health concerns you may have.
How much water do I need to drink on my cleanse?
We recommend drinking 5 to 8 glasses a day of good (no tap!) filtered water during your cleanse, as water helps flush toxins and keep you hydrated. You can also have as many herbal teas as you like during the cleanse, so stock up. We like exotic blends and herbs that aid detoxing (look or organic teas from reputable sources such as Traditional Medicinals). As you cleanse, we also recommend you drink hot water with lemon and ginger. This aids in alkalinity and detoxification. Remember, if you begin to feel hungry or tired on your cleanse, you may actually be dehydrated, so drink up!
can i exercise on my cleanse?
Your energy levels may change during a cleanse so please listen to your body and do what feels right. You may want to limit your exercise to walks, light yoga and stretching. Remember, it’s totally okay to rest and take it easy.
I just started my cleanse and am feeling really tired. Is that normal?
Symptoms are good! They're a sign your body is detoxifying. Keep going! Some people experience fatigue or moodiness in the initial stages of a cleanse. You might also have some worsening of chronic issues (such as eczema, acne, or sinus discharge) at first as your body releases toxins. In our experience, all of these symptoms pass pretty quickly and you begin to feel clear, vital, radiant and balanced with self-care and continued cleansing. Keeping a journal of your emotions, physical condition and thoughts as you cleanse can be illuminating and helpful.
What are activated nuts?
Before we press nuts for our nut milks, we soak them for 12 hours in local mineral rich spring water to maximize their nutritional benefits. This activation process breaks down enzyme inhibitors found in raw nuts, making them easier to digest and unlocking their nutrients.
