So this is where we get down to it. Yes, it’s the holidays and 2016 is just around the corner. And we know that many of you are doing two things. First, you’re enjoying (and feeling guilty about) all the delicious indulgences this time of year has to offer. Second, you’re plotting the flawless diet and exercise regime you’ll start January 1st. We know you really mean it (this time). Don’t worry, we are definitely not here to judge! We’ve been there (fairly recently too). We’re simply here to reframe your New Year’s wishes into goals, turn them into a good habit and sprinkle them with a heavy dose of self-love.
As perfectionists, we are masters of self-criticism - particularly when it comes to what we eat and how we look. If we could wave our Juice Counter wand like your deeply loving Fairy Godmother, we would release you at once from that nasty Critic in your head. You know, the relentless inner voice track that will not be satisfied no matter what you do. So we’re here to help you take a stand.
We often meet clients sent to us by their own self appointed Critic. We know who sent them, because right away they tell us just how terrible they’ve been. They eat chocolate, they don’t drink enough water, they stay on the paleo diet for a month and then have the fries. Their Critic knows what they’ve been up to, and thinks a juice cleanse is the cure for all their awful habits.
We have to say, we love it when your Critic sends you to us. Here’s why. We DO have the antidote. It’s called self-love and body wisdom. A juice cleanse is one practice that can give you just enough time to hit the reset button so that you might chip away your Critic’s voice long enough to feel deeper and think higher and hear a different voice inside. We’ve said before that a cleanse is like a silent meditation retreat for your body, but it is a retreat for your mind too.
You don’t have to be flawless at this, we tell them. It’s an experiment, and we know that being curious about it can help you find out how you feel when your body is getting a rest from all that worry and anxiety about what to buy, what to cook, and what to eat. When you’re on a cleanse and you’re hungry, we say, please eat something! We promise we aren’t your Critic. We know that your body is wise and it knows what you need. If you can treat yourself with kindness throughout this process, you will finish the cleanse as strong as you started it.
We’ll be the voice of your biggest SUPPORTER while you cleanse, gently guiding and reminding you that you can let go of self-punishment and trust yourself. Time and time again (and it never gets old), we’ve watched this one small practice transform into a greater knowing of how to take care of YOU. And when that happens, your Critic will be out of a job.
